on the 3rd day of Dhu Al Hijjah of 1406 H (1986 AD), the Saudi customs in King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah has succeeded in failing an attempt to smugle 51 Kilograms of C4 high explosives which has been detained with Iranian Pilgrims whom came on the Iranian flight no.3169 from Asfahan
the Saudi Customs usually investigate all the luggage , but when the customs officer (named Sa'ad) emptied the first Iranian bag he noticed that its heavier than what its supposed to be . Then he have discovered that the base of the bag is of thick wood board that seems to be suspicious . They discovered it was two peices of wood been glued to each other and after opening them , there is a suspecious sticky white substance in the center which appeared later to be the C4 high explosives . The Saudi Customs found out that all Iranian luggage (94~95 bags) contain the same wooden boards which contains the C4 HE and the sum weight of it is 51 KG's .
on the Video , a Chemical expert speaks about the C4 specifications and shows how it was hidden in the Iranian luggage . Then a Saudi Police officer shows an experiment on detonating 1 kilogram only of the C4 high explosive in two cars .

the Iranian criminal named Muhammad Hasan Ali Muhamadi Dahnawi who works in nursing confessing that the target of smuggling the explosives to the Kingdom is to serve the Iranian interests and admitted that he didn't do it for money or anything else and that he could've refused doing it .
Then it shows his brother , the second Iranian criminal named Muhammad Ali Dahnawi who works as a teacher in Iran saying that Riza Tawakuli was insistent on smuggling the explosives despite that his brother didn't agree with it .
Muhammad Ali continues , "my brother told me that Riza Tawakuli has taken him to Tehran where they told him that this work is protected by the country and that he shouldn't fear because he is not alone in it"
Muhammad Hasan says "i have a friend named Ali Bu nianian and this friend introduced me to one of his friends named Riza Tawakuli , i gave the Pilgrims luggage to Riza Tawakuli and he is the one who put these explosives in the Pilgrims luggage and i brought it to here"
Muhammad Ali says "when i saw my brother with a Saudi employee he said salam alaikum to me and said that he didn't recieve the bags , then he asked me if i saw Riza Tawakuli and i said no . Then he said when you see Riza Tawakuli then tell him of what happened and that they discovered whats in the bags and took it"
Muhammad Hasan says "Riza Tawakuli as He introduced himself to me saying that he is one of the members of the Revolutionary Guard and as he explained to me he said :[you as a manager of the Pilgrims caravan then you're able to smuggle the explosives into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the Pilgrims luggage and i'll be there before you to recieve these explosives from you and we'll use it in the proper way] "
Muhammad Ali says "I think that Riza Tawakuli didn't came from Iran after he knew that it was discovered , or that he came but then they brought him back to Iran or taken him to somewhere else , and its possible that he might be in the embassy"
Muhammad Hasan who looks nervous says "these bags are made in Iran , i'm an Iranian (Hamladar), the Pilgrims are Iranians , the plane is Iranian and it came from Iran .. its all obvious and nothing is hidden in it .. what is their purpose of that ? i don't know but i say ask the Iranian government"

in his interview with Azzaman Iraqi newspaper on 30/9/2003 (edition #.1623), Ahmad Al Khomainy admited that Iran tried to smuggle explosives on the Hajj season into Saudi Arabia . however , he gave different information saying that who plan to do it is the Iranian Hajj Authority and it was 500 kilograms of TNT and that the target was to destroy the house of the Iranian pilgrims in Makkah .
he said : "There was a secret decision to prepare the conditions to end the war , and for this purpose there has been plans to take attentions away from Iraq and the war . and so they tried to send explosives into Saudia and specifically Makkah (about 500 kilograms of these substances) by hiding it in the Iranian Pilgrims' luggage without their knowledge (in each bag half kilogram of TNT), and that was to blow up the house of the Iranian Pilgrims in Makkah Al Mukarramah .
At that time , the Authority of Hajj was assigned ,without my knowledge, for this evil plan but Allah's willing didn't allow it to happen and the explosives were discovered in Jeddah's Airport and the plan failed . "

Senior mullah: Mecca riot work of Iran intelligence
Tehran, Jun. 04 – Iranian government agencies were responsible for planning the 1986 attack on Islam's holiest site Mecca in Saudi Arabia and the 1987 riots which left some 500 Iranian pilgrims dead, an Iranian presidential candidate and former Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Mehdi Karroubi said.
"I was the representative of the Imam [Khomeini] in 1985 and at the time in accordance with the orders of the Imam we organised events in Medina and Mecca and in the second year we noticed that one of the planes with 110 pilgrims on board had been detained. After following this up, we discovered that certain institutions in Iran had collaborated with the attackers and had placed explosives in the pilgrims' bags", Karroubi said in a University in the western town of Hamedan, according to the hard-line state-run daily Sharq, which quoted him in its Tuesday edition.
"Saudi authorities jailed all the individuals responsible for this after having arrested them and told me that I was the representative of the people and in charge of the Iranian pilgrims. They said that these individuals had acted illegally and that I should continue my duties and they will deal with these people themselves", he said.
“Some of these people, who are today ‘pro-American’, were united in their abuses against the [ruling] Al-Saud family, sacrificing national interests for their rigid-mindedness. This was why the Arabs acted in such a manner the following year, after our complaint, and martyred a number of people”.
Karroubi was referring to the 1987 riot and subsequent Saudi crackdown in Mecca which left some 500 Iranian pilgrims dead.
The state-run daily Siasat-e Rouz, on May 18, 2002, quoting Youssef Bakhtiyari, from the hard-line faction of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, wrote that Mohsen Mirdamadi, chair of the Iranian Majlis (parliament) Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the time, was among planners of the act.
Bakhtiyari said,“Those who went for Hajj procession in 1987, witnessed the massacre of some 500 Iranian pilgrims by Saudi security forces and police. A group of radical students, among whom were Mr Mohsen Mirdamadi and his friends, planned that after the pilgrims’ march in Mecca, they would enter the main mosque in the city and take over the microphone to the loudspeaker and chant ‘death to America’ and say other things. Therefore, some of these men who are now speaking of reforms paved the way for that heinous murder at that time with their extremist actions”.
Top regime officials and state-run dailies had previously blamed the main Iranian opposition group, the People’s Mojahedin, for the massacre. The state-run daily Kayhan wrote on August 1, 1987 of the “cooperation between the Mojahedin and the Saudis in the arrest of Iranian pilgrims” and the state-run daily Ressalat wrote on August 4 of the same year,“The heinous, anti-Islamic, and inhuman murder of Iranian pilgrims in the Mecca killing black day was carried out by Iraqi security forces, the Mojahedin, and Saudi police on the basis of a premeditated scenario”.
